I just want to be alone, in a world where I can't hurt a single soul
And lately at night I've been walking around this town to feel alive
These suburbs seem so peaceful when the people are asleep
And I love all my friends
Though I'll somehow manage to cause them all pain in the end
So I'll walk through an old graveyard, towards the waterfall where we'd stare at the stars
We found the blood from Diana's body where she'd been hidden underneath
And I saw a little girl crushed by a car on the opposite side of the world
Her neighbors just shuffled by, while her screaming body bled out and she cried for her life
I like to think that I'd act different but the statistics don't agree
So we built a machine to try to relieve this world of its own suffering
And we wove it with our own blood
A bleeding blanket for the battered and beaten up
And it told the children stories to guide them gently through their dreams
And I just want to be alone, but I can't because we're all parts of one whole
So lately at night I've been staring up at the stars before I die
This planet seems so peaceful when the people are asleep
